I would start by going to a big machinery dealer to see different machines and get an idea of what they can do at what price.

Re: Small workshop Tablesaw/Small panel saw options?

There are panel saws with various lengths of sliding table down to a meter or so. Axminster has plenty or you could get a sedgwick TA315 and get the big sliding table option. What's your budget? Looking for new or used or not fussed? Just re-read your post and if you need a heavy duty rip saw as a p...

Sanding belts for wide belt sander

Hi,
Anyone got a recommendation for suppliers of wide belts? I need some delivered quickly but can't seem get any recommendations.
Seems strange you have to buy them 10 at a time so you can't test new ones without spending a fortune.

Re: Newbie!!

What tools or machinery do you have right now? Can you find a local cabinet maker or joinery company to supply some better timber? Some timber merchants will machine timber to the finished sizes you want then you can just cut to length and join it however you like.

It's unlikely the top and bottom face of the sleeper are parallel to each other so even if the saw was cutting square it still wouldn't line up.
You'd be better off using the saw for one side then finishing with a hand saw.
Or hire a bigger saw for a day!

I know this is an old post but I would also recommend an SCM saw (or their minimax range or casadei).
All my machinery is SCM, some new, some very old and it's all excellent value compared to stuff down this end of the market.

You're not far from vastern timber. They could make the slats in English oak for you or if you can find a local joiner thay might use vastern already

I've had an old sedgwick MB for about 8 years and it's brilliant. The green ones are older. I think they changed to the blue/white around 2000. They haven't changed the design significantly over the years but try and get one with a dc brake fitted otherwise it takes ages for the block to stop. Peopl...

Re: Sander recommendations

A mains sander will probably have more oomph but more important is the speed and orbit pattern. Some sanders have smaller pattern of say 2mm for fine work and some have a 5mm pattern for quicker, more aggressive sanding. Look at a good budget 150mm like the metabo sxe 450. Or for seriously quick rem...

Wide belt sander, spindle moulder

Hi,
I'm going to start contacting dealers but wondered if anyone has a 950mm wide belt sander going? We also need a spindle with sliding table and power feed (power feed not so important as we can get one).

Contact your closest cabinet maker/joiner and ask them to supply you some prepared timber to the sizes you need.
I'd be happy to supply someone if they gave me a cutting list. Might take a few weeks though!

If you're cutting sheet material for cupboards then even a cheap track saw can be extremely accurate. You also need less space than a table saw to cut large pieces.
I lived without a table saw for years when I started out.
