I have not been on a training course, however in a previous job, one of the old boys did spend a good week with me showing me the basics, and he did recommend reading all HSE stuff. However we didn't get into setting up the blocks. Cheers guys. Thats a resounding f**k that then  I think there m...

Spindle Safety

I have been asked to use the spindle at work. However i don't have much experience, i get the basics having used a router table for a while and i also worked at a speakerbox manufacturer, but that just involved swapping one block for another. I've never had to swap cutters and set the blocks up. Are...

It would be interesting to know what size needle is best.

When i've done this before, the needle was that small i couldn't pump the glue out.

Re: Burr Walnut Dining Table

Thanks guys :D I am happy with how the legs turned out. The veneer is particularly stunning and the ginger bit frames the birds-eye then getting darker to the edge. It reminds me of a planet in space. I still do think the legs are on the large side or table top on small side. However it is really on...

I went for the dust and glue method, which worked very well as i can't see or remember which mitre it was. It was finished with PU lacquer. Well it's coming along nicely. Albeit slowly, i find it such a pain working from a single garage, laying out and veneering in the front room helped, mum was a bit pissed though, especially when i dragged an 8x4 in, then proceeded with the noisy vac pump on a sunday evening    My leg...

Re: Burr Walnut Dining Table

I finally got round to starting  I'm going with my original design with the ellipse, as it's for my mum and she likes the idea. I still think the legs look a bit big though. I started by squaring the ends of my legs and making a lipping that will fit. http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee23/se...

Re: Burr Walnut Dining Table

I would like to use the legs if possible, but at the moment i just think they are too big. The edge of the leg to edge of top is only about 70mm i think, which i think is tight. I could make the top bigger though.

If i didn't use them what kind of leg do you see?

Re: Burr Walnut Dining Table

Thanks John. I didn't think of having a panel the same shape as the top. I think your right though, i've gone over the top and tried to include too much. I was just going to book-match out the burr i have, so my idea was to include a centre piece to liven it up a bit. I will have to sort through my ...

Burr Walnut Dining Table

I have been tasked with making a dining table. I have a load of burr walnut so this will be the main veneer. I also have some curved legs which I scrounged from work, which I would like to use. I think the problem is the top is just far too small for the legs i have. I'm also not sure about the ellip...

For the package that matty bought which is the System3 package it's £276.41 plus vat.

Re: Ripple Sycamore Linen Press

If you can't get black hinges you could maybe use brass hinges and colour them black. I used this blue liquid at work recently. Basically we diluted it down with water then immersed the hinge for about 40 secs and it turned black. I can't remember what the chemical was called, but could find out on ...

Jon, i should have said hand taped. Pain in the ar*e removing the tape as you know. I have been using a blue tape that is 19mm wide, it's so much better than the traditional lick and stick stuff. I roller it on and peel it off after pressing. It leaves no residue at all and is very quick. You just ...
