Indian Rosewood

I have a friend who has 5 pieces of Indian Rosewood for sale. They amount to a little over 10 cubic feet, 2" thick, 50 years old.
If any one is interested, I can put you in touch with him. This is a very scarce commodity, and no longer available. Collect from Forest of Dean.

Re: Help! Headstock shaft

Three suggestions, but they depend on the resources you have available, and your bravery. Not in any particular order. 1. Drill a cross hole through the sleeve. Oil the spindle nose threads. Fit faceplate, do not tighten. Place bar through cross-drilling. Unscrew faceplate, and hopefully jack the sl...

Re: Looking for some American Cherry to buy please!

I think I have some 2" , possisbly some 1+1/2", will check tomorrow.
I' m in west Gloucestershire, but I have a friend who's inlaws live in Brassington.
He visits them quite often, and I think his arm could be twisted enough to take it to that neck of the woods.

Beech Legs

I'm having something of a clear-out at work. I have about 50 of these fluted beech legs. Think they have had a coat of cellulose sanding sealer. http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee110/Old_joiner/Surplus/th_IMG_1640.jpg Also have about 500 balls with spigot http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee110/...

Wadkin GC Moulder

Matt,
Little bruvver had a GC, and if I remember correctly the head sequence was: bottom, top, left & right together. Think there was referencing block on the bottom head. Not the best head arrangement. He changed to a P22n after.

You must first determine if this is a "though-feed", or more lightly, a "push-feed" machine. The through-feed machine will do as it's name suggests, and feed like a thicknesser. The push-fed machines have a large pair of serrated feed rolls at the in-feed end. The other pressure rollers through the ...

I know you asked for the main reason, but that depends on your requirement at the time.
a. To reduce breakout
b. To cut an angled groove for example, without having to tilt the work
c. To alter the angle of the tooling, now that we can't pivot cutters in their blocks

The other possibility is cold bearings, or rather the lubricant. With the weather we've been having recently, it may be the case. Had this many years ago with a surface planer, (grease lub), and still do on a spindle (oil lub). Bearings grumble, whine, and generally whinge until they warm up. Doesn'...

Check that the top hats are not bottoming before they pinch the block. This will allow the block, and or shaft, to rotate independently, so that when the machine starts, the block is driven by the loose fit on the top hats, and the friction on the lower flange created by it's own weight. this would ...
