Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

I think I’ll have to go down that route at some point.
I’ve got a chap coming on Monday to see if he can make me a new spindle. Says he’s done it before so we’ll see what comes of it. Just a shame nobody is breaking a tradesman machine at the moment.

What stain for sapele?

Evening all.
Starting to make six windows and two doors for my own project in a week or so. Wondering what would be best to stain/finish the sapele in.
I don’t want it dark, if anything I’d prefer it to stay the colour it is, so maybe a clear coat of something?
Open to suggestions.

Re: Advice on buying first set of Chisels (Gouges, staight, V, etc)?

I use Irwin-marples (red and yellow) splitproof chisels for 99% of the woodworking I do, and a real mix of original marples, narex, and kirschen for carving and chopping out mortices etc. Just buy whatever you come across in builders merchants, car boots and autojumbles etc. As long as you keep them...

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

I’d snap it up if it was single phase, my little workshop only has single phase at present.
So if that’s very similar to both BERs, perhaps I could look out for one of those for spares? It’s the centre shaft that slides inside the main casting that looks similar to mine.

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

I’m sorry for the late reply. You are probably right about the cost. I’m going to budget £200-£250 to repair, if it’s going to cost more, it will get turned into something else. I’m not to sure if that spindle from eBay would be any use or not, I did however come across a cooksley dpindje moulder wh...

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

Definitely shows it as a 30mm spindle. I suppose I’m going to have to get one made. If I do, I might get a 30mm and a 1” made. That way I can use a variety of heads.

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

This is the only information I can find out about it. It’s a real shame I can find a parts diagram or list.

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

Yes they are very different to mine. Is the one on the left for a BER2?

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

I’ve done plenty of looking all over the internet, nobody seems to be breaking them at the moment.
I bought the machine to act as an all rounder until I had a bigger workshop. Then I was going to leave it set up for running VTG through.
Does your BER2 spindle look similar?

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

So the lower threaded section in which the spindle sits in is bent, as is the spindle that sits in it

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

It turns out, the base of the spindle is ever so slightly bent. The main problem is with the threaded part where the spindle sits into the main drive shaft. I’ll add a picture of the part I mean.

Re: Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

Spoke to Dalton this afternoon, they can’t help with parts as the ‘tradesman’ brand was made in Brazil as such the drawings and measurements remain in the ownership of ‘tradesman’ etc. Think I’ll try Scott and sargeant tomorrow. It’s a 30mm spindle, do you think they’re interchangeable between machi...

Wadkin Tradesman RS10 spindle moulder problems.

Hi everyone, very new to woodworkuk. So I’ll apologise if anyone has covered this topic before. Recently purchased a rather nice old wadkin tradesman RS10 spindle moulder. It was more or less complete. Got it back to my workshop and whilst moving it around, it got the better of me and it tipped over...
