Whenever I have such items veneered I specify a triple layer veneer, like a thin ply, it means you dont even have to fill screw holes, the corners are sharper and it doedn't peel like a single veneer. Panic over, took a lot of rumaging around down there but luckily with a pair of long nose pliers and a bradel out it popped, mrs Roines hand mirror now has a few smears on it, but a quick once over with the trollies and it polished up a treat.
