Viceroy TDS6/SB/WL

Ex high school technical department and in very good working condition with the expected cosmetic wear. Bearings are quiet, motor runs beautifully and bed/slide/toolpost surfaces are clean. Extraction unit works well and has been fitted with new seals. I also have an version of this machine without the dust extraction unit and original control gear for someone who wants a restoration/conversion project.

- Upgraded & new DOL No Volt Release motor starter unit.
- Original dust extraction unit for use on the bowl turning bed.
- Fully cleaned, checked and serviced.
- 7in bowl turning rest and 12in T bar rest.
- 5in and 8in faceplates.
- #3 Morse taper driving and static centres.

These are compact and exceptionally solid machines with heavy cast iron bed and headstock for rigidity and vibration dampening. Toolpost positioning is simple, versatile and convenient. The 3 Phase, 400 volt motors are dual voltage so ideal for an inverter conversion or connection to a single to 3 Phase converter. Alternatively, a cheap replacement single phase motor would allow connection to a domestic 240V outlet.

Nationwide delivery can be provided at cost, usually around £80 but please enquire with the destination postcode for an exact quote. Delivery is via a tail lift equipped truck with the machine wrapped, bolted & secured to a pallet. If you have any questions or would like further details, please do just get in touch.

The specification is as follows:

Distance between centres: 15.5in
Maximum Swing: 18.5in (9.5in centre height over toolpost slide). 10.25in centre height over bed.
Speeds: 425rpm, 775rpm, 1330rpm, 2270rpm.
Motor: 3 Phase, Dual voltage, 3/4Hp, 1425rpm.
Spindle Thread: 1 1/2in by 8TPI.
Overall dimensions: 48in length x in depth x 44in height.
Accessories: 12in T bar rest, 7in bowl turning rest, 8in Faceplate, 5in Faceplate, pair of centres, original dust extraction unit.

Extract from a wood turners forum discussing the TDS6: "The Viceroy was made in England in the 50's and 60's and apparently large numbers were set up in schools in the UK... For bowl turning the Viceroy is an absolutely great machine. It's heavy steady and vibration free. Needs to be bolted to the floor for out of balance work however. The front table format gives great in- bowl close quarters access for rests and tools. It's an absolute pleasure to turn on. Get it if you can. Judging by the protective shield on the front spindle nose on the example in your image I'd say it came from a school for sure. That usually means little work at all and no heavy work so should be in top condition."
