Which Heavy duty runners for under stair cupboard?

Postby Meccarroll » Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:27 pm

Hi, I may have a small job making some under stair cupboards, two side by side. Tallest will be approximately 4' high and then shortest approximately 2'9" high. They are for shoes storage etc under the stair and will require shelves but open as two doors. The runners will have to take the load of each cupboard and height/tip may be a problem. Any advice on which runner may work best?

I want to do something similar and have been kicking ideas around in my head.
Currently the plan is full extension drawer slides two at the base and one at the top
This would be supplemented by a castor under the front edge to add support when fully extended

Depending on the floor covering the castor could be replaced by a wider roller to save marking a carpet.
This is all in my head and not proven. The value of my ideas could be closely related to what you have paid for them!

Accuride do heavy duty full extension runners up to 700 or 800mm deep and rated up to over 200kg but they ain't cheap. Fixed castors would be a cheaper alternative. I've used accuride ones rated around 80kg with no problem.

Thank's for the replies but on this occasion I won't be needing any runners/castors after all. A specialist comp came in with a really good price £600 for a set of three under stair draws and that was £150 cheaper than I could do it for.

I did take a look at Accuride, Steve, and as you say they can be a tad expensive but if replacing two sets of smaller runners with just one then they are probably similar in price.

I'm going to keep the suggestions in mind though and try to come up with a more competitive solution in case this type of work comes up again.

Thank's chaps
