What wood is used for the veneer of this inlaid chess board?

Postby twingall1 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 12:29 pm

Hi,

I have a small inlaid chess board/box, early C20th. I am puzzling over it and my wood reference book- can anyone help me on identifying the types of wood used here? Looks like at least 2 types.. Possibly boxwood for the white squares?? The darker squares i like a lot- very smooth grain with no clear lines, this in particular i'd be keen to identify..

Got some good pics:

I hope that we will be credited with helping you identify some of the things you are selling on ebay ;)
