new dust mask / respirator ?

just getting ready to buy a new mask/ or cartridges for the one I have.

which is this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gerson-9000E- ... SwH09ZJZsj

has twist on cartages, and disposable prefilters ..

I used to do more painting .. hence having a paint respirator
and have just stuck with it since out of habit

Assuming if it filters out paint/solvent fumes, then MDF dust should be no problem .
You know what ASSUME does ! lol ...

What do people think ?
What would you choose ? what do you use ?

My workshop is constantly full of fine MDF dust .. which is my main concern.
Secondly, I will be using a bit more paint and solvent finishes for the short term .. maybe more if that product line takes off. I've never been impressed with water based dyes and finishes.

Yes .. I know I should be getting rid of dust at source .. , but for now, I wear a mask

I've been using the 3m 4251 masks for a while and stick with them as they are relatively comfortable. Currently £18 in screwfix. I also have some disposable pre filter papers that fit across the front which are good at removing a lot of dust and prolonging the life of the mask. Probaby a comfortable mask is the most important thing as you won't be discouraged from wearing it.

Cheers Steve .

Mine are comfy . When the CNC is going I wear it all day practically .

It was more that I've been buying/using the same system for about 10 yrs , that I thought I'd check and see what everyone else is using these days

Price wise, the replacement cartridges for mine are about £18 ish, so not much in it. And I know they are ok for VOC and 2K

If you are using a mask for MDF dust you need one rated P3. The one you link to doesn't seem to have a rating at all so I would assume it is only for paint/solvent use. I have used 3M 7000 series masks for years and they are very good (. I hope)

Looks like I'll be getting something more suited to MDF dust ......

The pre filter is rated P2, so not too bad, but I would definitely go for a dedicated P3 mask if I were using MDF a lot.

yes , a little bit reasuring .. they do a P3 prefilter , but can't find it in this country.

about £5 a pair from the nether regions .. plus post.

So might get the one Steve said about, for when using MDF only

Just had a quick look, and the 3m mask is only P2 rated (whatever that means)

ah, ok .. same as mine then.

the P is for particulates. 1,2,3 .. with 3 being the best / removing the most

I'll have to look at removing dust more at source. And also use my air cleaner again.

Like already said you really want P3 rating for long term exposure. Have you thought about a decent powered one. I used the 3m dustmaster for a few years until the batteries died I then went to a 3m versiflo which are p3, much better than wearing a mask. Really silly money when new but they come up on ebay cheaper.
