native Sycamore suppliers

Postby davidpidge » Thu Mar 15, 2018 5:46 pm

I was going to switch from American Tulip to American maple (from Timbersource, Shepton Mallet) but would prefer a native timber. UK oak seemed a bit OTT but sycamore seemed to tick all the boxes and seems to be similar to maple. Interesting timbers are my closest specialist for native hardwoods but they don't seem to be able to supply sycamore (unless they source it as a one off) but I found these guys...

and they can supply good quality sycamore form Scotland for a good price but delivery is £175 and I don't have storage space to order decent quantities all at once (I also don't like storing timber in my damp workshop) so it'd be nice to find someone who's more local to me (Bath area) so if I need a couple of boards I can collect.
Aaaannyway ..... Does anyone know a good supplier of Sycamore in sawn boards that either has cheap delivery or are local to Bath area?

Cheers!

You could give Goulden Hardwoods a try. I had some nice slabs of sycamore off him a year or two back. Might be a bit small scale if you are looking for a large regular delivery but can't hurt to give him a try.

I get mine from Nelson Butler's in Horncastle, can be hit and miss on stock though.

Thanks I'll give them a try. Other suppliers have suggested that getting a regular supply would be tricky.

Might be worth giving Devon Hardwoods a go? Pretty sure they stock sycamore, and if you're putting in a decent sized order they'll deliver up your way.
