12" wide timber

Post by cheddarman » Tue Oct 01, 2019 5:27 pm

Hi folks.

I'm hoping to make a rotating spice rack for my good lady for which I need three pieces of some sort of softwood (Pine, Spruce) ¾" or 1" thick and 12" square, from which I will endeavour to cut out three circles.

Could anybody point me in the right direction as to where I could find this width? I've checked out all the usual, Homebase, Wickes and the local timber yard but it's too wide.

Thanks

You will struggle to find softwood 12" wide. Best to edge join several pieces or just buy a piece of pine furniture board

Ah thanks for that. I got the idea from an American video where it seems it is readily available over there. I'll have a look at Pine furniture board or just use plywood and edge it!
Cheers

I think you can have a look at here.. https://www.proboxdrawers.co.uk/product ... pice-rack/, offering affordable wooden spice racks in a range of standard sizes (Can also create a completely bespoke size based on your design)

For future reference southern yellow pine can be bought as wide boards . Normally used for stair strings this wide .
