A couple of handmade saws

Postby karl » Wed Jul 28, 2010 8:54 pm

For those who don't frequent UKW, I thought i'd show a pair of saws i've had made by a couple of guys from Germany.

My photos really don't do the saws justice, so you'll have to forgive me.

Carcass saw - 14" blade, 13tpi
Dovetail saw - 10", 18 tpi

Handles are Bubinga

The brass backs are "extra heavy" and really add heft to the saw and give a great authority when cutting.

I've had these saws about 2 weeks now, and didn't want to post about them without having tried them out. They cut brilliantly, and should give a lifetimes service (as long as I figure out how to cut and set them).

Apart from the finish (which is first class), the thing which really stands out for me is the handles, which are custom made to fit my hand. Klaus sent me detailed instructions on how to measure my hand, and I must say that the handles are perfect; I couldn't imagine a more comfortable grip.

So, all in all, happy chappy :D

I'll be ordering a panel saw from them later on in the year.

Cheers

Very nice, Karl. I reckon we are very lucky in that there are now several first-class makers of excellent hand saws, several of whom will make you exactly the saw you need. We've never had it so good 8-) :D

Cheers ;)

They are lovely mate. I dare say they cost a few quid too?
Cheers, Matt.

No, they weren't cheap. Just under £300 for the pair. :o I'm taking a long term view on them though

Cheers

They look very nice Karl. In the premium saw market I don't think £300 for the pair is that bad in comparison to the other players.

I would love some of those. Very nice. 18TPI for the dovetail just about perfect I would think. Agreed, £300.00 is reasonable but I will have to wait a while.
