Kapex KS120 problems

Post by Andys Woodshed » Wed May 27, 2020 8:51 pm

Any one else had long term problems with their Kapex
Mine is 16 months old and is going back for its 4th repair under warranty
I would not consider it is used excessively my previous electrum beckum was still going strong after 15 years before I replaced it with what I thought was a better machine
It's not transported about but lives permanently in the work shop
All problems have been electrical
4 months old new brushes
8 months old new brushes and armature
12 months old new trigger switch new brushes and new gears
Now it's gone again excessive sparking, smell of burning and noisy
Anyone else suffered similar problems

I've had no problems, so far, with mine. I may be worth a letter or email asking them to replace it as it appears there is clearly something fundamentally wrong with the machine.

About all that is left of the electrics not replaced to date are the field coils and possible the softstart/braking module if not included in the switch, I wonder if they might have a problem?
I'd agree with Keith. An approach saying this is not the type behaviour associated with a brand leader etc and (provided it is true) how you have been delighted of your other Festool machines and yet now you are considering other makes for forthcoming purchases etc

Good Luck

Update
The saw was finally picked up yesterday after UPS lost the transited box
Spoke to the service manager today who confirmed they had received the saw back
After a hour of examination received a phone call back to say the armature had gone again, apparently it had been replaced twice before, and that they were sending me a new saw on Monday

FFS
New saw arrived yesterday carefully delivered by DPD
The box had a few battle scars but was intact however when opened the new saw was covered in oil
Apparently there is oil in the gear box
Call to Festool and was told that sometimes during rough handling the oil plug can come out so they would collect the saw and send another one out today
Lets hope the courier looks after this one

Third time lucky!!
Afraid not......
Saw arrived today and was in a similar condition to the previous one
After an exchange of emails and a phone call to the service manager an exchange is being arranged
They did offer the explanation that it was grease from the gear box and when warm can become a liquid however when I pointed out the saw was cold why hadn't the grease solidified they offered no explanation

Is your saw the model previous to the update to solve these problems ?

I believe so
The replacement is the new model with the extendable work supports

These Chinese saws :o

I'm hacked off with Festool because if you don't register your item within x days then your warranty is crap. My supplier told me he had and I trusted him. More fool me. Still can't understand why Festool are so anally retentive though. After all, you have the invoice as to when it was purchased. So why the big 'thing' about registering within 30 days ?
