i am fine tuning this saw for curvery work. that means the guilds need to be in top shape.

first true up the the side blocks.

one pass killed my HSS bit

clean with scotch brite pad
Image

had to make a grease cup for the thrust bearing end as they were lost some time in it life.made them from a pluming brass plug i got form home depo for $.45
i used EP grade 1 grease.

Image

the side block assembled pin and bolt in place.
Image

to grease the side block you flip open a lid and pack with grease.

i worked on the lower guilds and dust collection today. there is a chute that takes the dust and chips right at the source. i make it a little better i think.

heres a pic of it cast in the saw.

Image

i wanted to extend the chute right up around the wheel,so i made a walnut platform and bolted it in.
Image
Image

i got a piece of 1/2" felt and shaped it to fit the slop and around the wheel. the felt is the same thickness as the cast and so it is even with the dust chute
Image
made a round top bolt
Image

i put a slot in the felt and found a wing nut in the rat hole.
Image
Image

there is a tin surrounding the guides so all of the dust is picked up at source.
Image

there is a guard on the out side that can adjust with a wing nut. i made a threaded washer to hold the bolt in place and so the guard would slide easy.
Image
Image

cleaned up the brush and installed
Image
Image
mounted the blade guilds.

working tags and guards.

the tension gauge is stock and i find it funny that it has one. not many saw from the early 50s did.
Image

OK Matty you can see my face this time . it is just beside the camera at the 10deg mark.
Image

the wheel guard needed the bearing retainer cap removed to install. i had reworked it early on in the project. the bearing were cleaned and re-greased. the last thing to do was pack the grease rings and install. it has a flange to catch grease flying out and keeps it off the work. very nice detail.
Image
Image
Image

i sanded a flat on the cast wadkin name in the aluminum magnetic starter box,and installed the tag
Image
the motor plate is on the outside just above the motor/ brake shield so that the information is readily there.
Image

any one want one of these yet.LOL
Image

the wadkin band saw will have to be put on the back burner for now as i have a job to start on Monday. i did get it wired after making a strain relief for the cord.

the body is rounded and so i had to shape it to fit the body.

so its back to weekends and nights for the rest.

Excellent and inspiring job. Just taken delivery of my own... Lower thrust bearings and plate are knackered - but there is little/zero information on the lower guide in the Wadkin documentation. Will I have to roll my own? Or is there any chance you could point me to a source document that describes the thrust guides accurately?

Can anyone provide details of the blade guides on a Wadkin Bursgreen MZF? I've just acquired one and they appear to be chrome plated brass, which sounds wrong to me
Thanks in advance

Welcome. It might be worth starting a new topic as this one is 4 years old.

Hi Furnace,
I can't answer your question but Jack who started this thread regularly posts on Instagram, he goes under the name of jackenglishmachines & is a font of Wadkin knowledge
