Spray shop Masks

Postby lynx » Mon Feb 08, 2010 10:46 pm

I'm getting a bit of a lung full from my 3M 600 series half mask. Just wondering what others use here. Anyone using air fed? Any good?

I use a north mask with the cartridge filters.I also use the pre filters that prolong the life of the main filters and seem to make the performance of the mask better. Never tried an air fed mask.

I used a air-fed mask for about 3 yrs, and found it very good. I did find it a little annoying after a long stint (8hrs plus), but couldn't smell no fumes. I used the same mask for the 3 yrs, so no filters to change. We did have a powerful extraction system in place too however, which must have helped with the fumes no end. :)

I use a Scott profile mask, fits fine with a beard. Because I now have no sense of smell I've fitted P3 filters just to cover the bases. Lasted(ing) well and comfortable.

A local car body shop mate chopped his wife in for a new and much younger model at age 55 on the gounds that all sprayers are dead by the time they are 60.

He was so distracted by the new arrival he went bust shortly after.

You have been warned

Air fed masks are good without a doubt..but they do need a lot of air as they continually bleed into the visor. Make sure your compressor is large enough to feed your spray gun and the mask or use air storage cylinders. HTH. ;)
