Paint Tin Disposal

Just a quick post to see what others do with the mass of paint tins once empty?

We are starting to get a nice collection and we have been looking at a crusher to allow these
to be taken away in bulk, but the machine isn't cheap £1700 + VAT

I squash them with the front bucket of a tractor and chuck them in the skip Probably not as efficient as a crusher, but you need a serious collection of tins to justify £1700+vat.........

Can't you accomplish squashing them with a hydraulic workshop press, they're much cheaper!

Take them to the scrap yard or leave them outside for 5 minutes and someone will nick them and take them to the scrap yard .

I took 160 cans, mix of 10l and 25l to the scrappy, van stacked completely full. We all had a guess at what they would be worth, nearest would get the dough. Guesses ranged from £25 to £40................ result £3.10. Still good way to get rid of them.

Could an a adapted log splitter crush the cans? You'd probably only need to weld a piece of thick plate on it. A six ton splitter can be had for £200-£300. Just saved you a fortune, when should I expect my cheque??

Can't you bung them in the boot of your car and take them down the recycling centre ?

You can if they are cleaned out and crushed. I've been told they can't take them as they are as they
can still be used to carry liquids.

how about put them under a couple of sheets of ply and park on them ?

Scrap yards will take any condition, just had to peel tin tops off.

8ton Log splitter just went for about £65ish on eBay, big enough to do 25l with a bit of adaptation. Delivery was of course extra, but you must be able to find one local to you. I like tusses idea, two boards and park the van, job done.

We can get them taken, if flattened. I've found a 6 litre crusher for £800, the 30l for £1300.

Issue with the log splitter, you don't have a door on it. Not sure H&S will like us crushing solvent tins without the sercurity of the door.
