Advise for ash table

Postby Amolkarnik » Mon Oct 15, 2018 6:36 am

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and looking for advice on how to finish a table.

I have recently purchased a 3m long plank of olive ash for a dining table. I have mounted this on a metal frame.

I now need to seal and finish the wood against stains etc.

I have no experience of wood working so I was hoping to tap into the knowledge pool here.

First and foremost, the wood is 60mm thick and had knots and solid in it. I would like these filled with a clear resin filler. Can anyone point me in the direction of the materials and processes?

I would then like to sand the top to take out some bumps and finally apply a protective coating to prevent staining from dropped food etc and to bring out the lovely graining. Again, any advice on process and most suitable material would be welcome. I am not looking to stain the wood and would like to keep the original colour as much as possible.

Any help gratefully received.

If any member of this forum offers this as a service in the Milton Keynes area then I am quite happy to have this done by someone vastly more experienced than I.

Thanks
