Turned Chess Pieces, C19th; Rosewood or Ebony??

Postby twingall1 » Sat Sep 07, 2013 8:37 pm

Hi,
Can someone help me identify the wood used for the black pieces of this set?

Its not as dark as most ebony so i am unsure. I have been told it is Macassar ebony by one, Rosewood by another, and Mahogany (which seems unlikely) by another!

So if anyone knew with reasonable confidence i'd be very grateful. I want to turn two pieces to complete the set- a black king and a black bishop; so i want to get the wood exactly right.
