Caravan/ Box.

Post by Rebelervi » Mon Dec 21, 2020 4:44 pm

Had to relocate to smaller flat, and decided while other project was on hold would do another caravan, but smaller for use here.

Seen matchstick kits, while googling, but purchased loose matchsticks.
Put some on tray in oven, cooked, and cut some plywood parts to form box.
Covered the ply with darkened sticks.

Roof, cut two pieces of ply, to replicate curves where roof would sit, and used easi sand filler to make pattern. Layed up 3/ 4 layers of carbon fibre , figuring this should hold shape.

To do the wheels, sourced plant pots, which was irregular at base, but gave right diameter.
Found plastic part from a Dyson, which took up most of this, but used some polyester resin to seal. Front wheel similar.
Spun two pieces of circular MDF in drill, and used sanding block to get release edge.

With quick mold put together, poured some epoxy in and added CF strands, stripped from cloth.
Got most of air out, but few bits got trapped, so had to repair with cellotape & epoxy / chopped CF.

Fibre glassed spring, yachting grade, with epoxy, and base plate, with a hinge cut hinge plate, either end.

Messed about with front.

Messed around with back.

With the rims cured, drilled and used solid metal bar, centres are hollow threaded tube, sourced from junk table lamp, used nuts to hold washers, and made a mix to fill in gaps.
Spokes were grooved with grinder, and took out holes in rim alittle, then used CF strands/ epoxy to adhere.

Roof - When matched roof, covered cured CF panel, with plastic sheet, then started from center, got couple of strips done, left to set, then added rest. Left this to dry, sanded rear and used epoxy to set to CF roof panel.
Added wedges, for hinges.
