Here's some more of the tops (ancient history now, well, three weeks ago or so)

The wood overlay on the breakfast bar (stops it being a 6mm overhanging 'blade' to take out small people) - same recycled floorboards as the ceiling, but with closer selection for character enabling a clearer finish.

And this weekend's work - a giant light-sabre

Apart from the fact you are possibly the worlds worst photographer. That looks great mate. You obviously have great design abilities and your craftsmanship is superb. The ceiling is a genuinely true moment of inspiration.
Cheers, Matt.

It looks like the ceiling and light sabre is straight and the doors are on the lash :?

Couple more pics of the giant lightsabres - got the other one done today, so onto something else tomorrow. Basically a 4.5m length of 1.25" anodised ally channel, up-ended, with three 1500mm t5 dimmable link lights. Fittings are held in by small sections of 1.5" ally channel which slip the other way over the smaller channel, over the gap between fittings where the link is. Also a pair of opposed M3 allen bolts in the middle of the fitting pinching the sides.

They are just screwed into the ceiling, with some anodised tube slipped over the screws.

Loads of light on full, great for cooking. I am very glad I went with dimmable fittings as it is way too bright for just pottering around in.
