Looks very nice. Any particular reason for using veneered chipboard as opposed to veneered mdf?

Don't you find the bobbly finish of the chipboard coming thru the veneer. I remember using veneered chipboard years ago and it wasn't as nice as the mdf.

Nice work.

I'm surprised that given the value of the man hours in this, that the cost difference between chipboard and MDF is of any significance in the overall cost?

It does look much nicer not being bought pre veneered board and then lipped, and your right the saving over the course of a year is huge.
Cheers, Matt.

I understand what you're saying but like I said before I do all my own veneering. I see advantages in this but it does add to the cost. The finish is more than satisfactory. The difference between the cost of the MDF over the chipboard would not be signifcant on one single job, I agree, but..............

Taking this job as an example. In total I used ten sheets. The cost difference is £7.00 per sheet. Now supposing I did one job like this per month then that would be a saving of £840 over the year which is handy

£840 does sound a lot, but expressed as a % of the total value of those 12 jobs (say £5k a job =£60k) it's only just over 1%. I see the argument to have the £840 in your pocket as opposed to someone else's though
