Cutting list for freestanding wardrobe

Post by willow5 » Sat Oct 17, 2020 12:56 pm

Dear all, I am not entirely a novice but equally I am no expert. Could someone kindly advise how to go about creating a cutting list for a homemade double wardrobe. I would like some sliding doors if possible and either 3 exposed drawers below the doors (if they are not sliding) or concealed drawers if the doors are sliding. I consider myself competent at power tools. Thanks so much in advance

What are the overall sizes ?

Here is a rough design 1000mm wide 2200mm high 600mm deep

This was created in Sketchup with an extension called Cabmaker32

Cabmaker32 will give you all the component sizes in each material and the construction method.

You can download a free copy of Sketchup and a free trial of Cabmaker32 this will last for 7 days, the programme will take some time
to set up so I suggest you have a look at the youtube videos first.

I use Cutmaster as well which does all the sheet optimizing and the CNC output for components including drilling and any grooving, even part labels.

Wow thanks! That looks superb. Would it give you a breakdown of each component as a cutting list item including the drawer boxes?

My dimensions are not too far off from yours: h 2m, w 1.051m, d 0.560m

What sliding door gear do you recommend? I previously used cinetto but didn't rate their top rail system, much prefer a lower rail where the door sits on the rail.

Yes, here is part of the cutting list.

The drawer box parts and the panel layout, the red items are the grooves, drill holes and cutouts for Domino’s (only the full version)

As far as the sliding doors Cabmaker32 does not cater for those, I can’t remember the last time l did sliding doors so l have no recommendations, if you have sliding doors you will loose 50-60mm on the depth of the wardrobe.

l’m not sure if the basic version has the cutting list, the trial programme will be the full version so you will need to get a full understanding
from the youtube videos before you download it, if this is a one-off you won’t want to purchase the programme.
