Auto return mechanism on a Radial Arm Saw

I have just bought a Dewalt DW721 Radial arm saw . huge upgrade from my wee little powershop .
originally there was a auto return spring with a wire to return the head back to the post .
not really fussed over that feature , but on a review they mentioned that it helped control the rate of draw !
for those who have used them with this feature is it worth the expanse ?
