Advice On Planer Thicknesser Setup

Post by bobist » Wed Feb 17, 2021 2:24 pm

I'm a newbie to buying and setting up machines and due to limited access at the workshop I was using I bought myself a planner thicknesser, This was just for the odd home project. After looking about the Excel 10" machine seemed to fit my budget (it looks like a generic machine that seems to be sold under many names).

After unpacking, I made a couple of basic checks:

Fence at 90 to table - Wasn't, so did a bit of adjustment to try and get it someplace near. Difficult as its just a bit bendy.
Feed table inline with outlet table - Not bad, but not perfect about 0.25mm off (cant see anyway to adjust).

So put a couple of planks of Oak through to see if I can get a good join to joint them. But no matter what I do I get a 'U' shape to the plank (see photo attached). So question is what needs to be adjusted to sort this out?

Any help would would be great as at the moment I just have a paperweight rather than a useful machine!
