Medieval Period Trestle Table

Here's a medieval period table I doodled out based on a photo from the 40s or 50s. I think it would make a nice temporary table for when the family comes at the holidays.





The original was done with three legs on each trestle. I suppose it was better for floors that aren't flat and it would be less work when you haven't got any power tools.

Is it intended to be fold up or ...... fixed ? I like the drawing regardless

I'm guessing that it could be hinged and that would also explain the three leg ...although I also agree with Dave R that three legs will always be stable. But that would mean that the trestles would need to be separate from the top ...or at least one of them...anyway..I digress.

If the single was hinged just inboard from the two leg piece and the table top then hinged the other way, the whole thing would take up very little storage space.

To be honest, I don't know a great deal about the table or its design. I don't believe the rear legs were hinged but rather fixed in the top rail. The top was loose on the trestles so it could be knocked down. The cleats on the underside of the top would help to keep the top flat and prevent the top from sliding off the trestles.

I like lots of different styles of furniture. These trestles appeal to me for a sort of stand up computer desk although they'd have to be taller than I've drawn them. I've got a number of pieces I want to design/draw based on furniture designed in the 1930's for some state parks in Texas. Interesting styles involved.

I wish you'd posted that s couple of year ago, there have been a number of occasions where I have wanted to design a 3-d curvy shell like that, but had to give up 'cos I didn't know how to do it in SU.
