Timber strengthening

Hi guys,

I am creating a project where i will be routing out a solid piece of oak, walnut and ash. I will be using 20mm thick pieced and have a large area (450mm x 470mm) routed down to 7mm thickness to allow a drawer to be fitted. Obviously this is quiet thin so i was wondering if there is anyway of strengthening it withit getting much bigger than 7mm?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
