MDF glazing bead

Hi. I'm new here but hopefully someone here will be able to help me out.

I am in a rented house and have a Westie pup. She has taken a shine to chewing the MDF glazing trim on the French doors to the kitchen.

I have spent hours on google trying to track down some replacement trim but I am not having any success.

I've attached some photos.

Any suggestions?

Your best bet would be to find a different glazing bead that would fit the rebate then replace all 4 beads.

The bead is a hockey stick style, ie rebated so it lips over the face of the door. Impossible to find off the shelf.

You could get a joinery shop to match it, but you might find the cost not mhch different to a new door.

Thanks for that. Yep, really struggled to find anything online.

I had a local joiner come and look and he mentioned about putting a piece on the inside edge and then running a bead over the face to recreate but I'm concerned that it would be noticeable.

House insurance doesn't cover damage from pets either.

I find it odd that a replacement can't be found when these type of doors are quite common.

It would help to know your location, there could be someone here that's local that could run a bit out for you.

The first thing to check is that you can get the moulding off, sometimes it's moulded as part of the door itself. Then look for wood mouldings rather than MDF, most builders merchants keep a range as does BnQ and if you take your bit of moulding you should be able to find something very similar.

I've googled all kinds of bead wood, MDF, decorative etc. No luck. B&q had the Burbridge display but nothing remotely similar.

As mentioned above, let us know your rough location. It would not be a difficult job for someone with the right equipment to machine something like that for you.
It would certainly be cheaper and easier than replacing the doors!

The company in the link will mould a section to match your mould if you send them a small piece. You will have to enquire with them about price. I'd lift a small section then cut it square and draw around it on a piece of paper. Scan and send this to them in an email asking what they charge.

Anyone with a spindle moulder could mould this for you, it's just about payment really. A lot of woodworkers still have the old style whitehill blocks and grind their own cutters so if you find one of these chaps near to you it's likely you will get it done for less than the big boys charge. I'd expect to pay around £100 for the section if someone has to grind cutters and common cutters won't do the job.

The glazing bead looks quite simple, it has one ovolo mould and a rebate out the back.

You could try asking on the ukworkshop.co.uk site, there might be somebody on there that could run you up a few lengths.

I thought it worth posting because a landlord recently took a tenant to court and sued him for £12,000 damages caused by two dogs. The tenancy agreement clearly stated 'No Pets'. It's quite common in tenancy agreements today to list 'No Pets - Non smokers'.

Originally our tenancy stated no pets. We then asked if we could have a puppy and now have a separate pet agreement for our tenancy.

Wow, £12,000 is some damage. Hopefully it wasn't all for MDF glazing bead.
