Started off in shopfitting, moved through 1st and 2nd fix site carpentry, then spent a few years kitchen fitting (sub-contracting)......
When the new build industry went t**s-up in late 2008 I had to start to generate private work locally. Built in units, kitchens, stair make-overs etc. I then secured a (free) workshop and I'm now trying to find my niche.
A long slow process, but starting to get repeat customers, which is confirmation to me that people like my work. Anyone can pay you and say thanks, but a phone call to come back and take on another project makes it seem real.
Anyway, that's me in a nutshell

It is I, sir. I like to keep my online name the same for fora and also the avatar. Where a forum say's no to my chosen name the avatar is normally dropped too.
So who is your alter ego? I recognise several others here as they managed to use same names/avatars as elsewhere. I think there is only one place where my full name and avatar are still viewable.... mmmmm!

I'm Looking and I'm seriously serious trade . I was drawn to the forum by a general enquiry to google about what joinery workshops are charging per hour as I generally think many are charging too low a rate. I lose work to companies which are often new to the sector and occasionally get the value of the quote which beat mine. I know instantaneously whether this quote is reasonable and often its just so unrealistic as to be incredulous! So I will be looking at several sections of this forum and no doubt will be contributing to several. I will stress at every opportunity DO NOT UNDERSELL YOURSELF! You never get your time back!!!!

No problem, first advise, leave it in the shed until the plaster has dried. But fire away and if I can be of help let me know.

I just finished a 4-poster bed. If I costed it with my time at minimum wage I'd have to charge over a grand. You can pick up something similar from a factory in Shanghai for a quarter of that on eBay. Thank God it's a hobby, I'd never make a living at it. Hats off to the pros!
