dust extraction

hi all I need your help in understanding dust extraction is more airflow better than higher wattage and is 35 micron filter bag any good as all the others come with 5 micron bags but less airflow and less wattage I like the air flow of the fox 2hp but the bag is 35 microns any advice please

From what I gather, if you have a smaller micron filters these offer more resistance, due to it being tighter woven (or whatever it is), so therefore you will need a bigger motor to create more airflow. I am not a technical person, so can't offer you the correct terms etc. But I am guessing if you use machines on a regular basis, you will need to buy the best extractor you can afford, as you can't put a price on health.

it also depends on what machines you are using it with.
Planers/Ticknessers/Lathes etc don't need a fine filter
whereas sanding/routing MDF produces very fine dust

thanks guys mostly thicknesser and tablesaw as most my other machine have dedicated cyclone set up found a 3 micronbag from Charnwood that might fit so will be enquiring at poolewood thanks again

thicknesser you don't need a fine filter .. it will reduce air flow.

TS, depends on blade and material, but still not as bad as sanding !

you can get filter crartriges for very fine dust if you ever need it
