So, it's time to make a proper spray booth!

I've been spraying away in an 8x15' room for far too long, time for an upgrade..........first I need to upgrade my pig pens to dump non work stuff from the future sprayshop. So this may take some time, but I have bought some blocks and mortar and am not afraid to use them, don't know what I'm doing, but how hard can it be!

Anyway, I'm formulating the shopping list, first and rather importantly on the list is a bloody big fan. Current room is a dusty mess, no extraction just a good mask! I usually do waterborne, but want to happily do AC lacquers, etc.

Anyone know anything about the whole explosive side of things, does this fan have all the necessary? I don't have 3 phase so am much more limited, but this seems to tick boxes. It'll be going in a 16x15' room, with an amount of filter area yet to be decided, had in my head about 10x4 as that's on an outside wall conveniently below a long window and I always spray stuff horizontally so don't need the height........

It is an ace window, there's another couple of cool Gothic type windows round the workshops.

A number of hundred quid later............I now have a brand shiny new exploding fan, in single phase too! 20 inches should be big enough, right.........

I'd have made a square hole, and cut a frame on the CNC for the circle

Didn't want it any bigger than needed, and needed to put bloody big screws in the corners to keep it on the wall. When I say corners, I mean corners of the square fan, not corners of the circle, that would be silly

I've even fitted the fan and built a 'thing' to hold the filters. Who knows if the 'thing' is the right shape, but it'll do to start with. No photos of that yet, I need a tidy up first......

Urm, I'm not sure I'd call it fun.........bloody knackered, everything has had to move everywhere to get the place empty and quite frankly I'm wishing I hadn't started!

I may change my tune when it's up and running, but for the minute, mutter mutter grumble grumble.............

It spins and sucks, hopefully it spins and sucks well enough, it bloody well should do, it cost enough to not blow me up! Not tried it yet, only just got done with it and am out of motivation for the day. Maybe it'll need tweaking, maybe not, more filters maybe, but I don't mind that, the basics are there and it can be amended easily if needs be.

I said that when i did mine, what a difference it makes having a booth in your life! hows the spraying going?

It's great, everything is so much improved! None of this overspray that previously hung in the air for hours, drifting into neighbouring rooms. It certainly looks clear within a couple of minutes, but I've been leaving it on a short while longer. Took me a while to find a suitable ATEX single phase fan, but glad I did.

Also helping drying no end, spraying waterborne so the increased airflow is much needed.

Needs some inlet filters adding and I've just got a pile of twinslot uprights/brackets delivered for drying racks. It's early days, but it really feels like it will improve productivity no end.

I do fear I'm on the slippery slope however, I feel a shiny and not inexpensive gun is on the cards...........needing something a bit more geared to quite a high viscosity topcoat.

I have already and it's very very nice A little bit pricey, the gauge was £70 on top, gits!

Bought for the topcoat, which it is jolly good at, so much quicker and lays down a spankingly good finish. I didn't intend it for this, but thought why not try it on primer too........I thought the 3M Accuspray was good before, but since trying this on primer too, that's not left the cupboard!

I must not drop it, I must not drop it..............

Whilst ordering this I just discovered 3M do a RPS system, I already had the PPS. I don't know if you know the PPS, but the RPS has a screw cap to top up the cup. Given I refill the cups a huge number of times before binning, this is a much cleaner and more convenient way of doing it.
