Red Grandis Finishes

Hello,
I'm making a wine-rack/wine-glass holder from Red Grandis and I'm not sure how to finish it. This is my first project, and I'd appreciate any advice on the matter. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum daedalus. I've not used Red Grandis personally, but from what I read it is no different to any other timber when it comes to finishing. For interior use I tend to use Osmo PolyX oil where durability is an issue - table tops etc. It's near bomb proof but it does tend to darken and "yellow" the wood a little. For pale woods I tend to go for a sanding sealer followed by microcrystalline wax, which doesn't alter the colour as much as the Osmo, and is still reasonably durable. There is also a big following for danish oil, which is cheap and simple to apply, but which also has a yellowing effect.

I would have thought that a wine rack is not going to have a hard life so durability and stain resistance shouldn't be an issue. My suggestion would be to try several different finishes on some offcuts and see which you prefer. The choice for this particular application is unlikely to be a critical one.
