Oak finish for douglas fir

I have made a fancy set of gates in douglas fir and the customer wants a mid - dark Oak finish. It must under no circumstances come out that reddy orangy piney horrible colour that pine often like to come out as.

Anyone have any suggestions? I was going to use OSMO as usual but actually there range is quite limited for external colours.

Am considering using a combination of sickens stain and top coat.

Any help much appreciated
