Jon had asked for a knob the combined shape of 2 knobs.



The base to look like the lower half of the bottom black knob & the top to be like the upper half of the top black knob.

Hope it`s OK cause stella`s just arrived so that`s my turning finished for today,

How do you attach them! I've been doing them with 5/8" spigots which make them easy to attach to the drawer but are a bugger to get exactly right diameter. Is there a trick? Can't be bothered with wood taps and dies.

The black knobs Jon supplied had a pilot hole drilled in them, so where designed to be screwed through the draw box.

Previously I made them will a 10mm spigot which i used calipers to gauge the size with.

I do that but it seems quite slow to get an accurate diameter. There must be a quick way where you just bang in a chisel and get it right every time, as the finish doesn't really matter. I guess I need more practice!

Come to think, turning could be the thing, following my latest ebay bargain! Am working out what I can do sitting down in the workshop. Eating pies, doing crosswords, no prob so far.

Daughter had a go on it and whacked it into a wall straightaway. Luckily at very low speed. I had a go and got the throttle jammed and it went to and fro from wall to wall like a dodgem until I thought to switch it off.

The old favourite is with an open ended spanner of the size you need.
Grind one side down to a cutting edge so that once its pushed against the work it stops cutting once the size is achieved, the spanner dropping over the newely turned spigot.

Right. I have used a spanner as a caliper - they are handy as they come in all sizes and they stay set even if you drop them.
But hadn't thought of sharpening one side. Sounds a really good idea and I'll have a go as soon as possible!
